All in the Family

Well, the good news is that TCT, or the cousins team, was victorious
this past weekend at the Deary Race. With two Bonnette's and three Deary's scoring for the team,
we had a solid showing overall. After leading for 3.5 miles, I got gapped by 30 meters by a 22 year old
dude from Massachusetts, and he ended up winning in 27:11. I took 2nd in 27:21, and Breton took 3rd
in 27:59. I tried to open up a gap coming off the hills at 3 miles,
but wasn't successful in breaking the guy. I definitely was not happy with
losing the race, especially with it being a weak year. With Breton and I both
placing, and the team winning, we were able to donate a fair amount of money back to the cause which was a big
positive. Getting beat always sucks though.

I had a great time with the family up in Connecticut, and had a chance on the way
up and back to run at the Manasquan Reservoir in Central Jersey and Van Cortlandt
Park in NYC. On Monday I did my long run at the Reservoir, which is a 5 mile shaded cinder loop around
the Manasquan Reservoir. I was scheduled to do a 20 miler, and had water, Gatorade, and GU set up every
loop. The humidity when I started the run was higher than the temp, which was 89. I got to 10 miles, and started
to black out a bit. After getting some water at 10 miles I started into the
third loop. After getting through 13 miles and starting to feel even more out of it,
I decided to pull the plug after the third loop and 15 instead of 20 miles.
Better than passing out on the side of the trail I guess. I ended up with 70 miles
last week, a couple miles less than planned. This week I am scheduled for 78, with a
18 miler on Sunday that includes 10 miles at marathon pace to end the run. I haven't taken
a day off since June 14, which is a decent start in trying to stay consistent. Now I just need
to start running faster.
